See how the Rialto Bioenergy Solutions Facility is processing diverted organic waste to produce renewable natural gas – supporting California's Senate Bill 1383 and carbon neutrality goals.
Located in Rialto, California, about 50 miles east of Los Angeles, the Rialto Bioenergy Solutions Facility is one of the largest diverted organic waste landfill and renewable natural gas (RNG) facilities in North America.
The Rialto Bioenergy Solutions Facility (RBS), owned by Sevana Bioenergy, LLC, is designed to provide the Southern California region with a local solution for the diversion of organic waste and biosolids from municipal wastewater treatment plants.
The facility has the capacity to process up to 1,000 tons per day (TPD) of a combination of food waste extracted from municipal waste streams, liquid waste, and municipal biosolids. This conversion facility can produce up to 1 million MMBtu of RNG per year. SoCalGas worked closely with the developer who funded the design, procurement and construction of a SoCalGas owned dedicated pipeline injection facility that delivers RNG directly into SoCalGas’s pipeline network. The facility offers feedstock providers a reliable and flexible facility that can accept a wide variety of organic feedstocks.
Sevana acquired the Rialto facility in 2024, and it is actively securing new organic feedstock and working with California jurisdictions to provide SB1383 qualified RNG1. Sevana is committed to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and fostering a sustainable future through the production of RNG for transportation fuel, electricity generation, and other clean energy applications.
Senate Bill 1383
Senate Bill 1383 was signed into law by Governor Brown in September 2016. This bill is a statewide effort to reduce emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCP) that requires organic waste collection and recycling services to divert 75 percent of the state's organic waste from landfills by 2025.
